Dubai weekend

We have spent our weekend in Dubai:-), wow... This is not that big here:-), it's a 1 hour flight from Doha, so you can easily go there just for a weekend, but I think we all three agree that it was waaaay toooo short:-)... This was by the way Soffi's and my nameday and Mother's day present...

Thursday morning Peter went to work, we girls prepared everything... and at 1 pm we headed to the airport, we had a flight at 3:35 pm...

We arrived in Dubai at 5:30 pm (because of the 1 hour time difference)... then we had to buy visas and get to the hotel, so it was actually quite late when we finally had dinner. We just went down to the hotel's restaurant as per it was late, but we were lucky, since they had a belly dance performer that evening:-), wonderful:-),,,,- no way Soffi would fall asleep in that loud music:-), but we survived... We had a nice buffet dinner, with lots of desserts:-)...

Since Soffi fell asleep quite late, we all had the chance to sleep long the day after, we were all surprised when we looked at the clock next to the bed and it was 8:37 am!!!! We haven't wake up this late in a looooong time... And to wake up to this wonderful view, it was just the perfect start for a beautiful day!

We ordered room service and had 1 piece of an American breakfast, which was more than enough for all three of us... We enjoyed it on that huge terrace that belonged to our room... We originally booked a room online with a view to the street just on the opposite side of the hotel, when we arrived they've asked us at the reception if we wanted to upgrade to a room with sea view for 'just' 200 dirhams per night, we didn't want that, but it turned out he didn't have a room on a non-smoking floor, which we claimed we've booked, so he had no other choice than to give us a room with sea view free of charge:-)...

We've decided that even if we only had 2 days in Dubai, which we wanted to spend with full relaxation, we had to see a little bit of the town too... so we took a sight seeing tour on a bus... this was just before we were leaving the room, Soffi is shining of sun lotion here:-)...

We took a round in the hotel's garden while waiting for the bus, so that we knew what was waiting for us, when we got back... it was hard to leave after we saw this:-)...

But we did, and it was a good choice even though it really made us feel, like Dubai doesn't exist of anything else but hotels and shopping malls... those were the main sight seeing attractions... well, we took the 3 hours beach tour, there was another 2 hours city tour where we could have seen a couple of museums and the Sheiks palace... but... maybe next time...

This is the Burj Al Arab 7 star hotel, which is actually built inside the sea, a night is around 10.000 DKK (~400.000 HUF) per room. There's a helikopter landing platform on the top, you can actually see it on this picture, here is that tennis court, where Agassi and Federer played that famous tennis match in 2006.

Here we are driving towards The Palm, which is something like The Pearl here in Qatar, an artificial peninsula/island of the shape of a palm tree... here there are more sky high buildings and hotels again... beautiful though...
This is the Atlantis hotel, which is an other famous and expensive hotel, offers great entertainment for families, you can get a room with a glass wall under the sea, so you can see the underwater life without actually having to dive, which I personally cannot imagine to do... but we think Soffi is to small to appreciate this just yet.
This is Sheik Zayed, his pictures are all around the city, he appears everywhere in different poses, he must like himself a lot:-).
This is the Dubai Mall, we stopped here for lunch, as it was in the middle of the day, and our little girl needed to eat something before her nap. You could just jump on and off the bus at each stop, and there came another one in every half an hour. Well, our stop was one and a half hours, as we missed the one we wanted to catch, because I've got lost in this huge thing, incredible, not because I'm so good at finding my way ever;-)...
We chose to stop here exactely because of this giant aquarium in the middle of the mall. These malls in Doha are nothing compared to this one, it's unbelievable how fancy they can make them, and all the big designers where there, there's even a Bloomingdales inside... and a Tiffany...
This is the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. It's over 800 meters high, and it has the fastest service elevators in the world. You can go up in the top, and see whole Dubai from there... we didn't do that though... there is an Armani Hotel inside, obviously...
We saw these air conditioned bus stops on our way -funny-, we could use some of these in Hungary too on those hot summer days... well, those of us, who take the bus:-).
After our sight seeing tour, we have spent around an hour on the beach (without the camera), and then we went out for dinner. We decided to try a restaurant outside the hotel, on The Walk, which is just behind it. When Soffi fell asleep, we went back to the hotel and enjoyed an other evening outside in the bar with some drinks and a sisha...hihi
The next morning, after we have slept quite long again, we went down for breakfast, and yes, on that plate you see pork bacon!!! We have heard the rumours that in Dubai you can eat pork, and that there is even a grocery store in one of the malls where you can buy pork meat, but we beleived it first when we saw it with our own eyes:-), and there it was, hidden in the farthest corner of the breakfast buffet, and the sign said: PORK - it sounded much more like: watch out, Allah won't like this... it didn't even taste that good, poor bacon:-)...
After breakfast we enjoyed the last hours at the pool, before we had to leave at 3:30 pm to catch our flight back to Doha...
Soffi was so sweet = very tired of playing in the water, and she slept two hours, so we could have some mummy and daddy time too:-), lovely girl:-).
Here we are at the airport again after 2 days of Heaven, and after one of the most terrifying cab rides ever. Peter wanted to make conversation with the driver and so he asked him just in front of the hotel, how long time it will take to get to the airport (as we know everything takes forever in Doha during the day and evening and night...), so he says 22, no 21 minutes sir... we laughed a little, but he didn't do so himself, so we kind of thought he was strange, but he indeed was, he was speeding like a maniac the whole way to match the time frame he promised, even if I told him already at the hotel that then we had plenty of time to get there... At one point I even thought he was some kind of a terrorist or something, but no, he was just crazy! No tip for you, my friend...
This was a lovely weekend, we agreed to do this again, but maybe take a long weekend with two extra days, then it could really be relaxing...
Here you'll find the rest of the pictures:
